Amy Orwig
Tazewell County Board District 1
Amy Orwig is a proven community leader. She uses her creativity to see options, where others may see barriers. Amy always strives to treat each person she meets with kindness and integrity. She is excited to be able to put her passion for strong families and thriving communities to work for the people of Tazewell County as a County Board Member.
Amy has been glad to call Pekin home since 1993. Born in Richmond, Virginia, she grew up, primarily, in Ohio. In 1987, she graduated from Medina Sr. High School, in Medina, Ohio. She began her collegiate studies at Ashland College, (now Ashland University), in Ohio, where she rose to the rank of treasurer in her sorority, Phi Mu, and designed the cover for the Ashland College yearbook. In her junior year of college, she followed her parents to Illinois, and transferred her studies to Illinois State University. In 1991, Amy graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Fine Arts.
Amy’s career has spanned many different occupations, from sales to training, as well as being a case manager in a center that serves individuals with disabilities, and youth programming coordinator in a church setting. In each of her various occupations, Amy has sought to treat each person she meets with respect and kindness, handling each transaction with integrity. In addition to her “day jobs”, Amy has built a reputation as a freelance artist. Her artworks can be found locally on walls, both as murals and as canvas paintings, on mugs and wine glasses, and on custom ornaments. Her artwork can also be found as far away as the U.K., Australia, and Canada. Amy has also taught art classes, both to children and adults.
While her professional work has been important to her, Amy is most passionate about her personal involvement with PFLAG. Amy is a long-time PFLAG mom, having founded the local chapter in Peoria. Amy is also proud to be a Regional Director with PFLAG on a national level. The good work this organization does to strengthen families is near and dear to her heart. Her work with this organization recently earned her, and her husband, a community leadership award.
